Run Cycle Keyframes

These two videos are the keyframes of a run cycle. They are the same except for the first is taken at a 3/4 front view and the second from the side.

Run, Trip and Fall

Idea #4: Man is running from an over-zealous female stalker. He turns his head to look over his shoulder, trips over a rock, falls flat on his face, gets back up and runs away. I particularly like this one. I referenced the run cycle from Richard Williams' The Animator's Survival Kit page 177. I added the head turn, the trip, the faceplant and getting back up. If I decide to do this one, I will have to record myself or someone else brave enough to attempt this action.

Climbing stairs carrying a heavy box

Idea #3: Character climbing stairs carrying a heavy box. Spine shifts forward when leg pushes up. Spine curves back when leg is in mid-air. I thought this would be a good exercise to show weight and balance. Additional reference from Edward Muybridge's Man Ascending Stairs.

depressed shuffle

Idea #2: This is a depressed shuffle walk cycle. Character is mid 40s, male, pelvis shifted forward. His head lifts slightly with each step then back down between steps. Slow movement.

Skipping

This image is refrenced from Richard Williams' The Animator's Survival Kit page 209.

I believe it is a good guide for a skip cycle. This is one of my ideas for Computer Animation 3 walk cycle assignment. The character is a young girl, full of enthusiasm for life.

Buford The Bully

This is Buford the Bully, a cockateil character I modelled in Maya 2008. I scanned real cockateil feathers into Photoshop CS2, adding an alpha channel around them. Once in Maya, they were textured onto polygon planes. The alpha channel masks the shape around the feather. There are about 2,350 feathers on his head, 1,175 of them I placed individually. The rest were duplicated and placed on the other half. For about a week, I dreamed about feathers! Lol!

Knees, hands and toes

In the past week, I began modelling the hand and arm. I used the Joan of Arc tutorial for reference, modifying it to fit my character. After modelling the hand, I decided to go back and redo the toes. I added wedges inbetween the toes and knuckles similar to the hands. As for the knee, I winged it and am satisfied with how it looks smoothed. I will probably add an edgeloop or two where the knee bends. I don't know if you can tell but I also made the pit behind the knee and the two muscles perpendicular on each side.

Next week, my goal is to have her forearms, thighs, torso and head modelled. Please feel free to leave me any comments or suggestions. Later.
